Volunteerism

Volunteerism has always been part of Adam’s life. Being in service to others helps Adam connect to his community, learn new skills and makes him healthier and happier. It also reminds him to be so very grateful for the opportunities and blessings afforded him. Whether it is selling raffle tickets for the Red Cross, assisting others in a community legal service or providing free English classes, Adam encourages you to give just a little bit of yourself. Adam assures you that you will get so much more in return.

Volunteering in Vietnam, the Land of 1,000 Hello’s

Having lived in Vietnam for nearly two years before returning to Australia to complete his doctorate, Adam became acutely aware of the dire need for clean water in Vietnamese schools, particularly in ethnic minority communities. In May 2016, Adam and his colleague Ben took on an epic, bicycle riding fundraising journey to facilitate their vision of providing a clean water source for a primary school in Di Linh, Vietnam. Not only did this endeavour provide water for the school, but it also helped to decrease the student’s yearly tuition and provided valuable extra water for the rest of the community.

After weeks of training, they left Saigon on bicycles and headed to Hanoi, 1722 km away. They coined their trip a 1722 – A Vietnam Odyssey: ‘Trip to Pho’. After an incredible 35 days on the road, they completed this life-changing journey. By joining forces with The Sharing Kitchen, the water purification equipment, installation and water quality testing was completed, the system was commissioned and handed over to the school and village. Though the trip itself was a personal achievement that provided lifelong memories, the ultimate satisfaction came when the children could drink a glass of clean water. Something so many of us takes for granted.
